Weekly Update

This week we are STILL getting snow... We had a record breaking 28.7 inches of snowfall in February which shattered the record of 27.8 in 1896. Just my opinion ~ that was a record we didn't need to break! I am tired of the snow and now we are under a winter advisory. We have been having thunderstorms this afternoon and tomorrow more snow showers. On the positive note, it looks like tomorrow MAY be the last of the snow for a while ;) YIPPEE

STITCHINGI stitched some more on the border for my EMS SAL this week; but it is pretty boring just doing the borders...so I took a little break from that and started L*K's ABCs of Parenting. I plan on stitching this twice; once for the daughter of my boss who is expecting twins in April and then again for my daughter. The first one I am doing is for the daughter of my boss and I am doing that one with DMC thread instead of the Crescent Colours that came with the chart. Of course I could not find a conversion chart for the Crescent Colours so I am just matching them up as close as I can. This is how far I am.
Doesn't seem like it will take to long to stitch...it's just finding the time to actually stitch.
STASH SHOPPING
I did manage to make it over to my favorite LNS Inspired Needle to get in a bit of shopping. This is what I picked up this time
Whispered by the Wind's Fugue, Lady K Needleart's Spanish Flair, Lizzie Kate's One Hundred Years and...
Together from Deanna Carter, Lizzie Kate's Hop Squared, Val's Little Stuff Kiss Me (which my son picked up for his girlfriend in Australia), Lizzie Kate's Coffee Crazy (which was something I won in a contest that the shop owner Cathy was running), and a piece of fabric to do my daughter's ABC chart on. Not to bad of a day! And I finally got to meet Cathy in person ;) Very nice lady; whom I hope I get to see a lot more of! LOL

BOOKS
This week I FINALLY finished Lee Child's One Shot and I also read Joanne Fluke's Gingerbread Cookie Murder. Normally I like these books that follow Hannah thru her crime solving antics but I was very disappointed in this one. Guess you can't like 'em all? I also listened to Tess Gerritson's The Mephisto Club and The Keepsake. Didn't really care for the beginning of The Keepsake but it got better as it went along. I will be listening to the next book in Gerritson's Rizolli and Isles series; Ice Cold but not sure what I will be reading. I also stopped into Borders on Saturday to see if they had anything good on sale but the good stuff is pretty much cleared out already. Did manage to pick up a few things for Jacob and a couple of Cross Stitch magazines though. I am going to miss that store; luckily I will still have one near work and another not to far away from my house...just not near where I usually shop but I guess I will go that way now! :)

Have a wonderfully blessed week and I will see you next time ~ hopefully with a lot more stitched on the LK chart! :)

Weekly Update

This week there was not to much going on...except we had a plumbing emergency at the house. Not so much fun! LOL It started with the washing machine backing up into the bathtub and we ended up not being able to do anything that involved running to much water cuz everything backed up into the tub! Not a great weekend... Finally got in touch with the plumber on Monday morning and scheduled an appointment for him to come clean out sewer lines and drain pipes. I don't think it took him longer than an hour to do everything but thankfully everything is running perfectly now! YIPPEE

STITCHING
I started stitching the biscornu I received from Kim last week. It is coming along very nicely. I am making a few minor changes, like changing the direction of the hearts in the squares...they were all pointing the same way and I decided that I didn't really like it that way. Think I may change the border too; but I will decide that when I get that far. This is my progress so far...

I am also participating in a SAL in my Yahoo group Stitch N Swap. We are going to stitch the EMS 2010 flower series. So this weekend I found a piece of fabric to stitch it on (18 count antique white) and I started making the borders that go around each monthly flower. We are going to start in March and I hope to have my fabric all ready by the first. This is how much I have finished so far.
I am going to stitch it 3 flowers across and 4 flowers down.

WEATHER
In the past few weeks we have had to many different weather conditions! Three weeks ago we had a blizzard, the following week we had subzero temperatures, last week we had temps in the high 50s and that melted most of the snow away! :) But guess what??? This morning on the way to church..it was raining and the rain was mixed with ice -YUCK! This week they are forecasting more snow. I know it is only February but I am TIRED of snow and cold! 4 weeks until SPRING! YEAH

MOVIES
We watched a couple of movies this week...the first one was about a bank robbery called The Town; it was pretty good. The next one The Takers was also about robbers but they robbed armored trucks and it was really good. We also saw Legendary, and it was just all right. We also saw an oldie but goodie on TV...Serendipity. I love that movie and when I saw it in the listings I just had to watch it!
BOOKS
Still reading Lee Child's One Shot. Last week I listened to Tess Gerritsen book Vanish and started The Mephisto Club, which I should finish this week. Vanish was the 20th book I finished this year!
That is it for this week...Hope you have a wonderful week and hope to see you again next time!

Weekly Update

As if we didn't have enough bad weather last week...this week we had bitter cold temperatures! Tuesday thru Thursday the regular temperature hovered near 0 and with the windchill it was well BELOW 0! No matter how many "layers" of clothes you put on you still turn into a popsicle every time you go outside! Over the weekend it FINALLY warmed up a bit...we got up to the high 30s! Who would have thought that the 30s would be considered warm? My buddy Jacob got to go outside and play with his mom and build a snowman.

Ain't they cute together! :)

PRIZE PACKAGEThis week I received a package in the mail from Kim. She had a contest over on her blog and I won! The answer was that she had just made her first french knot ever. In that respect she got me beat! I still can't make one and usually I use beads instead. Anyways...she sent me a pink piece of aida, 2 skeins of pink DMC and a chart for a biscornu. I have never stitched...let alone assembled a biscornu but I am going to give it a try and hope for the best! It is probably going to be SLOW going and I will need to find a good tutorial to help get me thru it. SO if you know of a good tutorial...PLEASE send me the link!

I *think* I may start this project next.

STITCHING
I did stitch up Egg Delivery by SamSarah this week. It was a pretty quick stitch. I put it on fabric similar to the color they called for but I didn't think you could see the bunny that well and Tia agreed ;) So I outlined him to help him pop out a little.
He is a CUTIE; so now to figure out what to do with him!

WEIGHT
This week I only lost about a half a pound BUT another half pound gone is better than nothing! Up to a total of 5.2 gone for the year. :) Makes me HAPPY

BOOKS
This week I finished reading Lee Child's The Enemy and started One Shot. I also listened to The Sinner and Body Double by Tess Gerritsen. Gerritsen's books are getting better as we go on and I LOVE all of the books in the series by Child.

MOVIES
This week I only watched The Town staring Ben Affleck. I enjoyed it!
That about wraps it up for this week, have a blessed week and I will see you next time!

Weekly Update

This week has been an exciting week...not very productive though!

FAMILY
This week Tia; my daughter graduated from college! YEAH!! She received a Bachelors of Arts in Education with a major in Psychology. I am VERY PROUD of her. It has not been so easy for her because she also works full time and is a single mom to my WONDERFULLY FANTASTIC grandson Jacob. Now her next step will be to look for something in her field and continue on with her education so she can receive her Masters!

WEATHER
What a wild weather week we had in Chicagoland! The weather forecasters had been warning us for days that we were going to get a major storm. They predicted up to 24 inches of snow in 24 hours and for a change ~ they were RIGHT! Go figure...
On Tuesday is started snowing in the early afternoon and never stopped until Wednesday afternoon. This is what it looked like when it started snowing...notice our flowerpots here in our front yard.

and this is what the flowerpots looked like the next morning!
We did end up with about 24 inches and in some places the drifts were 3 feet high or more. This is a picture of what it looked out directly out our front door before we shoveled

and after we shoveled! Then OF COURSE the plow came and buried the driveway again! So our very kind neighbor came out and cleaned the bottom of our driveway and the street with her snowblower!
This is our cars in the driveway

before, during and after!
The dogs were even confused by all the snow! Though the lab managed

to jump over the snow the dachshund was trapped! Poor Cujo... ;)

STITCHING
I did manage to stitch up the last of the LK Christmas Blessings. This week I stitched Family, Faith, Home and Peace.
I already purchased the felt that I am going to use to make them into ornaments. Just need to get it all cut and ready and find my Crop-A-Dile so I can assemble them ;)
This is what I plan on stitching next... SamSarah's Egg Delivery!

READING
This week I listened to James Patterson's Cross Fire but I haven't finished Lee Child's The Enemy yet. I am just about thru with it and hope to finish it this week.
Thanks for stopping by...see ya next week ;)
