My Sunday Stitchy Update 09/13/20

Hello Everyone! I do hope you have had a great couple of weeks and got in lots of crafting and/or me time! During these crazy pandemic days it can be easy to forget about taking care of yourself so please remember to do that! 

So for my stitching... I felt that I must have made 2 million Xs trying to get this sign for Jacob finished. Silly me to think that one color would go faster than the two colors did since I didn't have to change colors but it took just as long if not longer! 

But FINALLY it is FINISHED!!

The big payoff for all those stitches is that he loved it and promptly hung it on the door to his room. Next I had a dilemma... should I finish Tia's already started sign or not? Decisions, decisions...  Well the one decision I did come to immediately was I won't be stitching it right away!  I need a plastic canvas break FOR SURE!

My Sunday Stitchy Update 06/02/19

Did you miss me?  LOL I didn't get much stitching in on my main piece last week so there was no post but I forgot I had the piece requested by my daughter.  It was a very simple saying to chart and stitch up and it made her very happy!

Then I took out a piece I haven't stitched for a while.  I saw that Linda had stitched a bit on her's when I visited her blog and it has been on my mind ever since and since my stitching "schedule" is all messed up I figured, why not! LOL

This time around I put the finishing touches on the Picasso but I only finished working one building. 

First up is the Picasso

Chicago's Picasso is an beautiful piece of artwork situated in downtown Chicago.  Picasso gifted this sculpture to Chicago in 1967. The sculpture has also and appeared in a few films. It made it's film debut in the 1980 iconic and hilarious film The Blues Brothers. It next co-starred with Matthew Broderick in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off and in the 1988 movie Switching Channels before appearing in The Fugitive in 1993. 

Next up we have Crain Communications Building, formally known as The Smurfit–Stone Building. I don't really know much about this building other than it has been named for whatever corporation is the "owner" of the building. Despite all the official names this building has it is fondly known as The Diamond Building because of the shape at the top. 

Useless and Totally Random Fact: I used to work in this building. I worked on the 15th floor and I used to love looking out the windows because you can see miles of Chicago. It overlooks Grant Park where there are many events and festivals throughout the summer. This was the best building to work in during the coldest days of the winter because when you get off the train coming in from the South you do not even have to go outside to get to the office; simply just walk thru the connected tunnel system they have under the streets of Chicago called The Pedway.

My Sunday Stitchy Update 02/10/19

Happy Sunday Everybody!

I hope everyone had a great and hopefully snow free week! Though I do hear that snow is in the forecast again but I guess it is winter.

So last week I started working on a Lizzie*Kate Snippet that was only supposed to take a couple of days. Well that plan didn't work out but it is finished now! Yay!!

So next comes the dreaded question... "what should I do with it now?" Well I thought maybe I should make it into a pillow ornament and hang it from my shelf of 'things' in my room. Hmmm...Good idea I tell myself!

Now the hunt is on! I need some fabric for the back. I was thinking something flowery but I don't have any in my stash. I am trying NOT to spend money on XS stuff this year (though I did buy an Etsy chart for $1.50, thanks Rachel!) So I decided to use some scrap aida I have. Then another thought pops in my head. Whenever someone read what I was stitching I would tell them 'and that's me!' so I decided to stitch that on some aida and use it for the back! 

I used the same border from the L*K design and looked through the letters to see what I could use. Most of them where there already; thank goodness, but I had to design a couple to fit in with the other lettering.

That brings me to the next step with this finish and a new SAL!

Rachel over at Ten Hour Stitcher has started a new SAL. It is called the Fully-Finished Gallery SAL. It is designed to encourage us to move things from our Finished Pile to our Fully Finished Pile. It will also be a place for us to display our finishes and drool over other people's finishes that have been completed during the last month. So I just HAD to finish this today so I could participate in the SAL!

My Sunday Stitchy Update 12/30/18

Hello Friends!

I do hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and got to do exactly what you wanted to do whatever that consisted of! We had a great day at home eating to much food while watching Christmas movies and playing with our new things.

Ever since the big rush to finish the ornaments I have not felt much like stitching so I worked on a piece that required no concentration at all. This is also my car project, the borders for the calendar.

So anyways, a while ago Tia saw this saying on FaceBook and told me she would love to hang this in her new office. I said 'Oh, that is nice and it would probably look great in your office' and didn't say anything else about it.  Instead I got to work charting it out and adding a few elements to it. Once I was satisfied with it; I stitched it up for her! I decided to name it Power as I think we all need the power to help us thru situations and take control of them. She was totally surprised when I gave it to her for Christmas and I was only to happy to surprise her!

My Sunday Stitchy Update 10/07/18

This week I have a FFO to show! 

I finished the stitching on the second square for a biscornu! YAY

then came the time for the assembly... eek...

First I had to sew up the sides and let me tell ya that was a frustrating experience in itself! 

Then I had to stuff it! 

It always amazes me how much stuffing it takes to fill something but it all got it in there! Another tricky part was the button! LOL I used the longest needle I had that fit thru the button hole and finally got the buttons attached! 

And here is the FINISHED piece! 

 I love it and I may make another one or two someday in the future! 

Now on to the next WIP!!

My Sunday Stitchy Update 09/30/18

Hi Everyone!


Today was Jacob's birthday and he is officially a teenager!

It is hard to believe he is 13 already. I remember when he was born and he was just a little bit of a thing and weighed only 4 lbs and 15 oz! Now he is about 5 ft 6 which is a whole foot taller than his favorite Gramm, me! I am super proud of this young man and can't wait to see what the future holds for him. 

This week I worked on a secret project that I can not share because the recipient would see it and it is a Christmas present.

My Sunday Stitchy Update 04/22/18

Hello Friends!

I hope you had a great week this week and were able to get in some time for yourself and maybe some stitching for Hermitting Weekend!

This weekend was Hermitting Weekend for stitchers. It is like a big stitch in but you stitch from the comfort of your favorite spot. You can click on the IHSW icon above to learn more about hermitting!

I received the chart, fabric (which was already cut into two small squares) and floss from a good friend who didn't want to stitch it way back in 2010 or 2011. I started it then but soon got bored with it and into the pile it went. Now as I am TRYING to empty the WIP Box of projects this one came up in rotation. Looking at the chart I realized there was NO possible way it was going to fit on that small piece of aida. Why didn't I realize that way back then? Who knows; maybe I had plans to change it then but since it was at the bottom of the box for so long I can't remember! 

Ok... back on track! I changed the things I wanted to change on the chart I had and finished one of  the squares. I was just going to stitch it twice, once for the top and then again for the bottom but once I finished the first square I changed my mind. So I opened up PC Stitch and designed a simple square that could be the other side! It will look just like what you see on the right side, just flipped around to form the square. Then will be the tricky assembly but that will be for another week as it is time to put this back in the box and move on to the next thing.

So that brings me to the WIP Box. I think I have made an executive decision (since it is only me, I wasn't overruled!) about the four UFOs still left untouched in the box! Since I still have some new starts (and who doesn't prefer a NEW start to a UFO) I will work in the remaining UFOs when something is finished and moved out. I started feeling that I might NEVER get anything finished since it is hard to work on 18 different pieces and it seems as though it takes to long to get back to each project!

Next weekend will be WIPocalypse weekend!!

My Sunday Stitchy Update

Hello...

I hope that where ever you live you are not affected by the cold front and/or snow! I am enjoying the sunshine and our warmer temps.  Moving to Arizona was the best move I ever made; in my opinion!

This week I have been busy stitching my fingers off.  Of course I think it is way easier to stitch on plastic canvas - it seems so quick!  I have two new finishes for the week and three small new starts; all Christmas ornaments.

I designed these little ornaments using my PCStitch program and one of the alphabets they provide. They are super quick to stitch up and SHOULD be done tomorrow. Then I will decide if I want to stitch another ornament or not!

My Sunday Stitchy Update

Well... Dorothy did not show up this week to get any work done on her; so I did a bit of sewing instead!

I experimented with making a set of place mats and napkins for the household.  The ones we have are definitely getting warn from all the washing they go through so I figured what can it hurt!  LOL  Anyways I cut and pinned and sewed and ended up with these!

Not to bad! I learned some tips and things I should do for the next time along the way so the next set should be better but these are totally functional and even look kinda cute. 

Then I decided to stitch up an Arizona Christmas tree ornament on plastic canvas for Jacob for this year as that was our "main event" moving across country to Arizona from Illinois. When I finished that one my daughter said "You should do an Illinois one too" so... back to the drawing board (or in my case PC Stitch) to draw the outline of Illinois and then I stitched it up today.

This week I hope to get them backed and hanging on the tree which Tia and Jacob put up over the weekend. They are half way finished with the Christmas decorating and will probably finish up this coming weekend. Can't wait to have a warmer Christmas this year!

and it is now with my brother in Virginia.

their worthy cause of a service dog and a fence for AJ.

Sunday's Stitchy Update...

Hi everyone ~

Hope you have had a wonderful week... it has been a long rainy week here and summer has finally arrived - YES!!  My favorite season of all time ;)  I LOVE the heat; the humidity not so much - but ya gotta take the good with the bad!

This week I managed to get in a bit stitching; not as much as I planned but every X is a step in the right direction.  I even went to a Stitch-In with Kim at our LNS Maddie Maks. We had a nice couple hours of stitching and we are hoping that the shop does it again soon.

This weekend was also International Hermit and Stitch Weekend and though I didn't stitch much on over the weekend I did get in a few stitches everyday.

I finished the Epilepsy Ribbon for my brother and now I just need to add the words but I have been kind of lazy yesterday and today.

Hope to stitch the words tomorrow so I can move on to something else...like Dinosaurs!
